Gunpowder French Fries
If you’re looking for fries with an edge, this is it. Ranch & Rifle’s Gunpowder Blend brings a bold, SPG flavor that takes these crispy, golden fries to the next level. Whether you’re frying up a batch at home or over the campfire, this seasoning is built for flavor that hits its mark every time.
Ingredients
4 large russet potatoes
Cold water (for soaking)
4-6 cups neutral oil (like peanut or canola) for frying
2-3 tablespoons Ranch & Rifle Gunpowder Blend
Optional: chopped fresh parsley or a sprinkle of grated Parmesan for garnish
Instructions
1. Prep the Potatoes
Scrub the potatoes clean and peel if desired (but we like to keep the skins on for texture). Slice into fries, about ¼-inch thick, keeping them uniform for even cooking.
2. Soak for Crispiness
Place the cut fries in a large bowl of cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes (or up to a few hours) to remove excess starch—this step is key for getting that perfect crunch.
3. Heat the Oil
When ready to fry, heat the oil in a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven to 325°F. A thermometer helps keep things consistent.
4. First Fry
Drain and pat the fries completely dry (water and hot oil don’t mix!). Fry in batches at 325°F for about 4-5 minutes until softened but not browned. Remove and let them drain on a wire rack or paper towels.
5. Final Fry for Crispiness
Increase oil temp to 375°F. Drop the blanched fries back in, frying in batches for another 3-4 minutes, or until deep golden brown and crispy.
6. Season with Gunpowder
As soon as the fries come out of the oil, hit them with Ranch & Rifle’s Gunpowder Blend while they’re still hot. Toss well to coat every fry with that peppery, smoky goodness.
7. Serve and Enjoy
Pile ‘em up, garnish with fresh parsley or Parmesan if you like, and serve hot. These fries are perfect on their own, but they’re also next-level when paired with smoky ketchup or a spicy aioli.
Final Word
Crispy, golden, and loaded with bold seasoning, these Gunpowder French Fries are the perfect sidekick for any meal—or just a snack worth fighting over. Try them once, and you’ll never go back to plain old fries again.
